Sorry, Weezer fans, that Rivers Cuomo sitcom isn’t happening

Turns out that Rivers Cuomo sitcom isn’t happening after all. The Weezer frontman told Vulture that Fox didn’t pick up the pilot for the series, which was annoyingly called DeTour. Though it has a decent cast—Ben Aldridge in the Cuomo role, plus Peter Gallagher and some other people—the pilot will never see the light of day. As Cuomo told Vulture,

It’s weird; in music if you make an album and your label decides not to put it out, you can bring it to another label and sometimes it can be a big success. At least it gets out. In TV, I’ve learned. It’s not like that. The pilot was made, completely finished, and we can’t show it to anybody! No one will ever see it. It’s a huge waste of money.

Fortunately—or unfortunately, as it were—this is most assuredly not the last time someone will waste money on something Weezer-related that could be good, but just isn’t.
