Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark is Broadway's highest-grossing show right now
Julie Taymor’s Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark, the plucky little Broadway musical that could (cripple someone), may still be laboring under the shadow of its already-legendary negative reputation and the intense scrutiny of critics waiting for the other shoe to drop (and cripple someone), but that doesn’t mean it’s not a burgeoning success. Last week it was Broadway’s highest-grossing show despite still being officially in its “preview” performances—something the Department of Consumer Affairs takes issue with, by the way—and even toppled the once-champion Wicked with a total gross of $1,588,514 for the week and performances to uniformly packed houses. We’re certain the thrill of possibly seeing someone break their neck has nothing to do with that.
