Star Trek will journey back to Strange New Worlds this July

After a two year wait, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has finally beamed up a season three release date. The Anson Mount-led spin-off will officially return July 17 with two new episodes. Following episodes will drop weekly on Paramount+ on Thursdays.

When we last saw this U.S.S. Enterprise crew, they were facing off against a ferocious alien species known as the Gorn. Season three will pick up with “the conclusion of season two’s harrowing encounter,” an official synopsis reads. “But new life and civilizations await, including a villain that will test our characters’ grit and resolve. An exciting twist on classic Star Trek, season three takes characters both new and beloved to new heights, and dives into thrilling adventures of faith, duty, romance, comedy and mystery, with varying genres never before seen on any other Star Trek.”

Strange New Worlds fans have already gotten a taste of those narrative departures through a musical episode and crossover with the animated Star Trek series, Star Trek: Lower Decks. The series, set in the decade before Star Trek‘s original series, has garnered quite a following, at least according to Paramount+. The streamer lauds Strange New Worlds as the most-watched Star Trek series based on views calculated within the first 90 days of its release, per The Hollywood Reporter.

In addition to Mount as Captain Pike, the series also stars Rebecca Romijn, Ethan Peck, Jess Bush, Christina Chong, Celia Rose Gooding, Melissa Navia, Babs Olusanmokun, Martin Quinn, Rhys Darby, Patton Oswalt, Cillian O’Sullivan, Melanie Scrofano, Carol Kane, and Paul Wesley. The show has already been renewed for a fourth season, which is currently in production. Hopefully, fans won’t have to wait another two years for that one to arrive.
