Fight for the Empire in This Cinematic Star Wars: Battlefront II Single-Player Trailer

The conflicts in Star Wars movies are usually cut-and-dried, good vs. evil affairs—but expanded media pieces like Rogue One add some texture to the combatants, with that particular film showing a moral grey area from the Rebel Alliance. With Star Wars: Battlefront II, this new single-player campaign will attempt to humanize the faces behind the Galactic Empire, putting players in the shoes of Commander Iden Versio (Janina Gavankar).

The single-player trailer (seen above) shows the destruction of Death Star II and the death of the Emperor, as seen in Return of the Jedi, to be the inciting incident. From there, Versio becomes an essential part of a campaign to bring down the Rebellion that took down the Empire. The trailer is quite cinematic in nature, depicting Versio and her peers as almost heroic—it would be interesting to see if the game addresses the atrocities committed by the Empire, seeing how the story is framed around them. Additionally, prominent characters from the films appear in the trailer, including Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia, and the appearances of Maz Kanata and Kylo Ren show that the story will extend all the way to the sequel films.

A multiplayer beta for Battlefront II recently ended (find our thoughts here), so now is the right time to promote the single-player campaign before the game’s release on Nov. 17. Hopefully, this mode of the game will be successful enough to warrant more single-player Star Wars experiences, as we just lost one of those projects with the closing of Visceral Games.
