Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Detours are both going far, far away
In the official Lucasfilm announcement that everyone was waiting for, the company has confirmed that it will be ending its popular Star Wars: The Clone Wars, with the just-concluded fifth season of the animated series being its last. The decision—which still leaves open the possibility of “new story arcs” and “bonus content” to come, just no longer as a regular show—arrives not long after Cartoon Network unveiled its upcoming schedule with Clone Wars’ conspicuous absence, leading some to speculate that it might find its way over to a Disney-owned station. Today Lucasfilm confirmed that launching a Disney-branded Star Wars cartoon is definitely in the offing, but it will be “a whole new Star Wars series set in a time period previously untouched in Star Wars films or television programming”—in other words, not the prequel universe that the company is now trying so hard to distance itself from, even the parts that people liked.
