Starz doesn’t want any more Blunt Talk from Patrick Stewart

At this point, we’d welcome a drugged-out, drunk cable talk-show host, as long as they actually understood the meaning of the phrase “tell it like it is.” But we live in a liberal bubble, so what do we know? Apparently nothing, because Starz has pulled the plug on Blunt Talk, about a drugged-out, drunk cable talk-show host played by Patrick Stewart. The news comes courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter, which quotes Starz programming president Carmi Zlotnik as saying in a statement, “We are grateful to Jonathan and Patrick for the tirades and laughs that Walter Blunt delivered to fans with such aplomb … It was a very special show with a heartfelt message. It was an honor serving you, Major.”

Blunt Talk was based on an idea from Bored To Death’s Jonathan Ames, who served as an executive producer alongside Seth MacFarlane. The show was initially picked up for a two-season, 20-episode order; after those episodes failed to make much of an impression with critics or audiences, the network decided that there would be no season three. For what it’s worth, the first season got middling reviews here at The A.V. Club, and we declined to cover season two.
