Steven Soderbergh is making a very ’80s show with Jennifer Grey
HitFix reports that director Steven Soderbergh is producing a pilot for Amazon called Red Oaks—and since it’s set in the 1980s, he’s naturally picked Jennifer Grey to star. She’ll join Paul Reiser and Richard Kind, two other actors who got their start in the ’80s, in the show about a teenager (Craig Roberts) who takes a job at a country club the summer before college—and after his dad dies of a heart attack. The teen then runs into some interesting people, “a colorful cast of misfit co-workers and wealthy club members,” i.e. everyone else in the show. Sounds familiar, doesn’t it?
The promo blurb for Red Oaks makes no mention of Grey’s character, though we have to assume she’ll play a 40-ish ingenue who finds a pathway to her sexuality through dancing with her hot dance instructor. She then falls in love with him, and also does that thing where she leaps onto the guy’s hands for a perfect reverse swan dive.
Hey, remember how bad Dirty Dancing 2: Havana Nights was? I watched it twice.
