Make sure you have a good dress cleaner on hand if you’re of prom-going age, because there’s a new Carrie in the building. Summer Howell has officially been cast as Carrie in Mike Flanagan‘s upcoming Stephen King adaptation for Prime Video, Deadline reports. While she’s relatively new to the scene, Howell has already built up a solid scream queen résumé. She recently appeared in retro Netflix slasher Time Cut, and has also had roles in Spirit In The Blood, All Fun And Games, Hunter Hunter, and Curse Of Chucky

In addition to Howell, the series got another major update in the spot-on casting of frequent Flanagan player Samantha Sloyan as Carrie’s mom, Margaret. Sloyan already gave a chilling performance as a religious zealot in Flanagan’s Midnight Mass, so it will be exciting to see what she does with a role previously inhabited by the likes of Piper Laurie and Julianne Moore. Other new cast additions include Alison Thornton (Girlfriend’s Guide to Divorce), Thalia Dudek (The Running Man), Siena Agudong (Sidelined: The QB and Me), Amber Midthunder (Legion), Josie Totah (The Buccaneers), Arthur Conti (Beetlejuice Beetlejuice), and Joel Oulette (Sullivan’s Crossing). Additionally, Matthew Lillard, who was previously announced in an undisclosed role, will officially be playing Principal Grayle.

Mike Flanagan has a lot on his plate right now, but this fleshed-out casting announcement is a pretty clear sign that Carrie is at the top of his dance card. He’s also currently working on a Clayface script for DC, as well as his long-gestating Exorcist and Dark Tower adaptations. This month will also see the wide release of his TIFF premiere The Life Of Chuck, another King adaptation featuring both Sloyan and Lillard. At this point, it’s almost like he has a bucket of pig’s blood hanging over his head forcing him to be this productive.
