Superfly takes Atlanta in the first teaser for Director X's remake

Starring Ron O’Neal as ultra-smooth cocaine dealer Youngblood Priest, Gordon Parks Jr.’s 1972 film Super Fly is one of the cornerstones of the blaxploitation boom of the 1970s—and a contender for the title of cinema’s all-time coolest soundtrack, to boot. Whether you think that Future, who composed all-new music for Director X’s upcoming Superfly reboot, is on the same level as Curtis Mayfield is a matter of taste. But there are some compelling reasons to update the original film’s Harlem setting, as X—best known for music videos for the likes of Kendrick Lamar (“King Kunta”) and Drake (“Hotline Bling,” “God’s Plan”)—and members of the cast, including Michael Kenneth Williams and Outkast’s Big Boi, argue in the first teaser trailer.

Superfly struts into theaters this summer.
