Supergirl gets picked up for a second season—on The CW
Though the stakes haven’t been as high as they were in DC’s Crisis On Infinite Earths (the comic that killed off Supergirl in the ’80s), CBS’ Supergirl series has still been fighting for its life almost since it premiered last October. In November, a rumor came out that Supergirl’s ratings weren’t looking good enough to warrant a second season, but CBS was apparently banking on the possibility of a crossover with The CW’s The Flash to give it a little boost. That crossover actually happened in March, but a push from the fastest man alive still didn’t do much to convince CBS that Supergirl was worth holding on to. Earlier this month, though, we reported that there was a chance CBS would slash the show’s budget and move it to The CW—which it co-owns—while also taking the production from Los Angeles to Vancouver (where The CW’s existing superhero shows are filmed).
