In response to its copyrighted work being so blatantly stolen to promote Republicans’ ethnic cleansing campaign, the official Tetris X/Twitter account posted, “P.S. The Tetris Company was not involved in the creation of ‘Build the Wall’.” The account also added ominously, “P.P.S. We take copyright infringement very seriously.” The game in question swipes the Tetris block-stacking formula to envision players building Trump’s environment and history-despoiling wall at the U.S.-Mexico border.
In addition, the statement was accompanied by a graphic stating, “At Tetris, we believe in the power of connection and bringing people together, not dividing them. To our fans everywhere: we love you, we see you, and we’re grateful to have you in our community.” The statement is preceded by the company’s rainbow-colored logo and followed by four red hearts.
Tetris is not the first IP to object in the strongest possible terms to the Trump regime using their content without obtaining legal permission. More than 50 recording artists have ordered Trump’s administration to cease using their music in their campaign ads and events and flood of AI slop. No word yet from the creators of Snake, Tapper, Flappy Bird, or the other games appropriated for MAGA propaganda.
