That Divergent TV show is in development at Starz

Last July, the YA dystopia well seemed to have officially dried up when Lionsgate announced that it was scrapping future movies in the Divergent series in favor of a Divergent TV show. This was news to series star Shailene Woodley, who had already been screwed over by one big movie franchise when all of her Amazing Spider-Man 2 scenes got cut and had no interest in moving to TV (at least at that time), so she announced that the she would be leaving the series. That’s all in the past, though, and the Divergent series won’t be stopped so easily.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Divergent TV project has now been picked up by Starz, which is developing a series called Ascendent that will take the place of the now-canned fourth movie in the film series. This is all very early, so a lot of details haven’t been filled in yet, but Tarzan writer Adam Cozad and Age Of Adaline‘s Lee Toland Krieger, who were supposed to write and direct the movie, are on board as executive producers. THR also believes that Woodley might change her name and come back, but that seems a little unlikely after her earlier comments.
