The Bachelor mansion is on fire
California faces a series of serious and deadly wildfires today (and, really, all this past year), with blazes in areas across the state already consuming more than 100,000 acres of land. Among the areas affected, THR reports, are a number that have been used in the past for film and TV production, including ranch sets that have appeared in Westworld, Firefly, and other Old West-styled shows, as well as the famed Bachelor mansion.
The latter building is apparently in flames at this very moment, one more victim of the quickly spreading Woolsey Fire sweeping across Ventura and Los Angeles counties all day today. The house in question has been used as a shooting location and living quarters for both The Bachelor and The Bachelorette since 2007, and at least one structure on the property, typically used by the show’s production team, has already burnt to the ground.
Other properties in the line of destruction—which began earlier today, and has yet to be contained—include the Paramount Ranch, which has served as a historic shooting location for film and television since the 1920s. It was, among many other uses, the primary set for Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, and has appeared in several other productions.
More distressingly, multiple fatalities have already been reported across all three of the fires spreading in California today, whipped up at least in part by the powerful Santa Ana winds. The death count isn’t clear yet; per Wikipedia, 19 people have died from wildfires in the state so far this year, although that number doesn’t seem to take today’s conflagrations into account.
