The Batman: Part II is "temporarily" on pause

Director Matt Reeves has stepped away from filming to tend to a personal matter.

The Batman: Part II is

Production on The Batman: Part II has been paused “temporarily” as director Matt Reeves deals with a family issue, Deadline reports. The pause adds to a series of delays on the superhero sequel, which was initially set to come out this year before creeping to a 2028 release date.

“Production on The Batman Part II has been temporarily paused while Matt Reeves focuses on a family matter,” a statement from DC Studios reads. “Matt has the full support of DC Studios, and we look forward to continuing the journey soon.” Deadline’s sources say it’s “too early to tell” if the delay will push the release date farther into the future.

The pause comes after numerous delays on the much-anticipated sequel to the now-four-year-old The Batman. To put this in context, Warner Bros. has been sold twice since the first film’s release. At least some of the delays were from the 2023 WGA Strike, but before production began in London over the summer, fans chided the filmmakers for taking so long on a script. It prompted a somewhat aggressive response from DC Studios head James Gunn, who asked fans to “get off Matt Reeves’ nuts” about the movie. Hopefully, fans will show a little more compassion about it this time.

The Batman Part II began filming in July, with its sights set on a February 18, 2028, release date.
