The Conjuring and Furious 7 director conjures a new horror film

Now that he’s had to work with Vin Diesel, director James Wan has decided the only horror show he should have to deal with is the one happening onscreen. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the man responsible for The Conjuring and Furious 7 is optioning yet another scary story to turn into a film, this one being Keith Donohue’s horror novel The Boy Who Drew Monsters. And unlike those previous films, he’s leaving the work of calling “Action!” to someone else, choosing instead to serve as producer on this project.

Writers Ian Goldberg and Richard Naing (The Autopsy Of Jane Doe) are on board to pen the adaptation of Donohue’s story, about a 10-year-old boy who suffers from agoraphobia, as well as having Asperger’s. Unfortunately, he also “develops the ability to bring to life whatever he draws, which unfortunately happens to be monsters.” Here’s a bold suggestion for the film’s climax: Take away this child’s drawing materials, maybe? Described as part drama, part ghost story, and part creature feature, the film will presumably show these monsters in all their CGI glory, unless this boy is drawing pictures of Dustin Diamond and Gene Simmons, a terrifying prospect in its own right. Wan is currently in the middle of shooting The Conjuring 2, and is also developing his somehow-still-a-thing Aquaman movie, so it’s unclear when this project will begin production. Although, if he wants this project to come to life ASAP, he should just tell that creepy 10-year-old to draw a picture of it.
