The CW will air a MADtv 20th anniversary special in January
Once described by a former star by saying, “Half of it was good, half of it was the worst sketch comedy you’d ever seen,” fitfully enjoyable Saturday Night Live competitor MADtv turned 20 years old this year. To celebrate the anniversary, several members of the show’s cast—including Family Guy’s Alex Borstein, and Keegan-Michael Key—will be getting together next month to commemorate the sketch series and its galaxy of endlessly repeating catchphrases and characters.
The special—set to air on January 12—will play on The CW, owing to the fact that the show was owned by Warner Bros., and not Fox, where it aired for more than a decade. Those nostalgic for the dulcet tones of Borstein’s Ms. Swan, or Michael McDonald’s monstrous man-child Stuart, can tune in to see all their favorite moments of quasi-inspired repetition play out once again, presumably while Ike Barinholtz, Borstein, Mo Collins, Crista Flanagan, Anjelah Johnson, Nicole Randall Johnson, Key, Phil LaMarr, Artie Lange, Bobby Lee, McDonald, Arden Myrin, Nicole Parker, Eric Price, Will Sasso, Aries Spears, Nicole Sullivan, Stephnie Weir and Debra Wilson watch on with the bemused, tired expressions of people who’ve survived being put through a meat grinder, and are now being asked to politely smile at their local butcher to commemorate that fact.
