The first trailer for the Ghostbusters reboot is eerily familiar
Hide your childhoods, Ghostbusters fans, because the first full trailer for director Paul Feig’s all-female reboot of the 1984 original has arrived online. And there’s something strange in this new generation’s neighborhood—namely that the same things are still happening 30 years later, only with CGI ghosts this time.
We meet Erin Gilbert (Kristen Wiig), Jillian Holtzmann (Kate McKinnon), and Abby Yates (Melissa McCarthy) in a library, like the original. We then follow them as they develop their paranormal fixation into a viable business with the aid of a sudden uptick in ghostly activity in New York City, also like in the original. The arrival of Patty Tolan (Leslie Jones) injects some energy into the proceedings, and Jones provides one of the funnier moments towards the end of the trailer when she literally slaps a spirit out of McCarthy. But even that’s an Exorcist reference, so. Y’know.
Dogs and cats will move in together when Ghostbusters hits theaters on July 15.
