The Force Awakens reveals character names on ’70s-style “trading cards”
Writing Star Wars: The Force Awakens fan-fic just got a little easier as director J.J. Abrams and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy have divulged the names of new characters featured in the teaser trailer that pretty much the entire world has seen since it debuted on Thanksgiving weekend.
They did so in the form of fun “trading cards” made to mimic the style of Topps Star Wars cards from the late ’70s. The cards, first published in Entertainment Weekly, reveal the names of characters played by John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, and Oscar Isaac, as well as the mysterious villain with the controversial new crossguard lightsaber. Oh, and that ball droid? Its name is BB-8.
That still leaves a significant portion of the cast, including Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie, Adam Driver, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow’s characters, unnamed, but we’ve got a whole year yet to fill with Star Wars news. The numbered cards—those numbers are significant, by the way—are below.
