The hit comics series Lumberjanes is becoming a movie
Despite the fact that it’s not published by Marvel or DC and it’s not written by Mark Millar, 20th Century Fox has just picked up the rights to turn Boom! Studios’ Lumberjanes comic into a movie. The Eisner Award-nominated series is about a group of young women who battle weird monsters and solve supernatural mysteries while at summer camp, but more importantly, it’s an all-ages comic with female main characters that was created by three women—Shannon Watters, Grace Ellis, and Noelle Stevenson. In a media world dominated by guys like Mark Millar’s time travel bros, it’s hard to deny that this is a nice change of pace.
Of course, the world being what it is, Fox has hired a guy, Will Widger, to write the Lumberjanes adaptation. In The Industry, Widger is best known for writing a script titled The Munchkin, which is hard-boiled detective story about a little person investigator who is trying to solve a Wizard Of Oz-related mystery. However, Fox is currently looking for a female director to take over the project once the script is done, so at least the studio is trying to hold onto the spirit of the comic.
