With the same immutable optimism that has characterized its production so far, New Line has confirmed the official titles and set release dates for Peter Jackson’s back-to-back The Hobbit films—brazenly making plans to hear the Maori gods laugh. The first installment will be The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and will hit theaters on Dec. 14, 2012; the second, The Hobbit: There And Back Again, will arrive on Dec. 13, 2013. All release dates subject to asteroids.
