Taking all the recent attempts to Americanize the hit British series The Inbetweeners to its logical conclusion, both The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline have similar yet contradictory reports that Paramount is working on a big-screen version of the show for U.S. audiences, whose lingering resentment over the Boston Massacre has long prevented them from enjoying the original. That and the damnable stamp tax are undoubtedly what prompted the move to take out all the "cunts" and other UK-allowed raunchiness that made The Inbetweeners such a hit and bring it to MTV, after all, whose patriotism has given them the will to try that again even after Skins.
Not that MTV's Inbetweeners has anything to do with this: This new movie version won't have much to do with the original show or its own recent UK big-screen adaptation (which hits U.S. theaters in September), nor will it have anything to do with the new MTV version. Instead it is either—according to THR—an Americanized version of The Inbetweeners movie with an all-new American cast, or it is—according to Deadline—something (somewhat) new that borrows the basic Inbetweeners movie plot of four high school boys on a raunchy road trip. So essentially, it’s either a remake or an inspired-by "reimagining," and the degree to which the show will actually be diluted is still depending, we suppose, on whether this Fourth of July, Britain finally apologizes.
