The next season of The Walking Dead is jumping to the fantastical future
The final season of Parks And Recreation jumped a few years into the future, setting up some wacky running jokes about everyone’s absurdly high-tech hologram phones, and now AMC has confirmed that The Walking Dead is going to take a similar path for its upcoming ninth season. It won’t be giving everyone crazy phones, obviously, but it will be jumping into the future. That’s according to new showrunner Angela Kang, who will be replacing old showrunner Scott M. Gimple on the next season and offered some new hints about The Walking Dead during a recent “Kick-Ass Woman Of AMC” event (via The Hollywood Reporter).
The time-jump has been rumored for a while now, particularly because a similar thing happens in the comic books that the show is based on, and Kang said at the event that “we’re playing with time in the season, so we get to jump forward in the story.” She didn’t share any specific details, but she did note that the season will have a “really fresh look and feel” and that it will start with “some pretty fun stuff” with a focus on “the core character relationships.”
We’re going to go out on a limb and assume she means fun in a way that’s relative to the rest of The Walking Dead, which generally isn’t a “fun” show, but maybe we’ll all end up having some good laughs this season.
