The search for Zsa-zsa Korda’s remains are underway, but it appears the rumors of his death may have been exaggerated. As Zsa-zsa (Benicio Del Toro) stands from the wreckage of his plane, casually spitting out a tooth as he heads on his way, there’s a different topic on everyone’s mind: money.

So begins the trailer for The Phoenician Scheme, the latest film from Wes Anderson. Zsa-zsa decided to appoint his daughter Liesl (Mia Threapleton), also a nun, as the sole inheritor of his estate, which is bound to upset at least one of his nine sons. Based on the trailer, it seems like there might be more than one scheme happening in Phoenicia, with Zsa-zsa heading into meetings pretending to make agreements, and some kind of board whose goal is “disrupting, obstructing, impeding, crippling Korda’s enterprise in any manner possible.” Michael Cera is also here as a tutor trying to impress Leisl, but he’s unfortunately blown it after getting drunk on three beers.

It’s been nearly two years since Wes Anderson’s last feature film, but it hardly feels like the director was gone. Last year, he released The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar And Three More, a set of Roald Dahl adaptations, for Netflix, and Asteroid City, also featuring Tom Hanks, Scarlett Johansson, Jeffrey Wright, Bryan Cranston, Hope Davis, and Rupert Friend, had its premiere at Cannes in 2023. Joining them for The Phoenician Scheme are Riz Ahmed, Mathieu Amalric, Richard Ayoade, and Benedict Cumberbatch. The Phoenician Scheme will open in theaters on May 30.
