TV Land doesn’t appear to have any faith left in The Soul Man—via Deadline, the network has just announced that the Hot In Cleveland spinoff’s fifth season will be its last. The publication posits that the cancellation comes on the heels of TV Land’s move towards “edgier, single-camera programming,” like Impastor, we guess.
The Soul Man stars Cedric The Entertainer as Boyce “The Voice” Ballentine, an R&B crooner turned minister whose newly godly ways don’t sit well with his wife (Niecy Nash) and daughter. The character was introduced in an episode of Hot In Cleveland, but the spinoff quickly established its own audience, drawing TV Land’s highest ratings among African-American viewers.
