The Subtle, Sensitive Poetry Of CNN

It's been over 24 hours since Oprah sat MacKenzie Phillips before a studio audience, turned her warm, empathetic eyes toward the sitcom-star-turned-walking-downward-spiral, and said, "Come on! Let's get right to it. Read page 108!" And we all know what was on page 108.

Since those horrible revelations have come to light, many words have been written about the horror of incest and the sickening turns of the gears in the celebrity industrial complex that would allow not only for such a thing to happen, but for such a thing to be made public in a book and then on Oprah. But so far none of these words have truly been effective in communicating the mixture of shock, revulsion, and empathy the public felt when MacKenzie Phillips told Oprah: "Your father is supposed to protect you, not [BEEEP] you." None of the words written have been effective, until now.

(CNN) — In 1967, the Mamas & the Papas had a hit with a song that detailed, with bittersweet harmonies, the checkered history of the band. The song, written by the group's John Phillips and his wife, Michelle, was called "Creeque Alley."

If the song were to be updated today, it might have to be retitled "Creep Alley"

Too true, CNN, too true.

It's sexual abuse puns like "Creep Alley" that will lead us all on the path to healing.

Although, honestly, I would have gone with "Monday, Incestday."
