The Television Critics Association nominated Empire and Transparent for a bunch of awards
Years ago, when TV was just getting off the ground, some people believed that none of its programs would ever be worthy of awards. In fact, some feature films—like Poltergeist—were based entirely around the idea that having a TV in your bedroom could kill you. We’re in The New Golden Age Of TV now, though (or we were a few years ago, at least), so now TV is good enough to deserve multiple organizations giving it awards—even if the awards themselves sound confusingly similar. At the end of May, the Broadcast Television Journalists Association gave out its Critics’ Choice Television Awards (saluting The Americans and Amy Schumer specifically) and the Television Critics Association is ready to announce the nominees for its annual awards—which are not the same thing as the Critics’ Choice Television Awards. Got that? Good.
HBO, of course, has the most nominees of any network (seven, two of which are for Game Of Thrones), with ABC, CBS, AMC, and FX in a four-way tie with five nominations. Fox and Amazon both got four nominations, all of which went to Empire and Transparent, which both received more nominations than any other show. Both are in for Program Of The Year, with Transparent up for the requisite comedy categories and Empire up for their drama equivalents.
The TCA awards will be given out on August 8, and the entire list of nominees is below:
Individual Achievement In Comedy
Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Veep, HBO
Gina Rodriguez, Jane The Virgin, The CW
Amy Schumer, Inside Amy Schumer, Comedy Central
