The Walking Dead smashes basic-cable records with season finale

A record-breaking 6 million people tuned in to watch Sunday’s finale of The Walking Dead, taking top honors as the highest-rated show in AMC’s history and easily making Mad Men and Breaking Bad look like small, pitiable, lauded, critically adored, brilliant programs that fewer people watch. Even better, 4 million of those were in the 18-49 range, making for a season average of 3.5 million demographically desirable viewers—more than any other show on basic cable, ever. With those kinds of “fuck you” numbers, The Walking Dead could, say, fire its entire writing staff.
