"There was no way of knowing when Titan was going to fail," a talking head remarks in the doc trailer. "But it was a mathematical certainty that it would fail."

A little less than two years ago, OceanGate’s Titan submersible imploded during an expedition to visit the wreck of the Titanic, killing the 5 people aboard—including OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush. There have been a few different documentary projects made about the fatal incident, but now Netflix has thrown its own offering into the ring: Hence a trailer today for Titan: The OceanGate Disaster, posted online just a few weeks before the movie is set to have its world debut at the Tribeca Film Festival.

Fascinatingly, and maybe fittingly, the trailer for Mark Monroe’s movie takes on the cadence of a true-crime film, or maybe even a horror movie, with Rush’s own hubris as the stalking killer. Talking head critics do not mince words in their belief that Rush got himself and four other people killed through bull-headed idiocy; at one point, the phrase “borderline psychopath” gets tossed around, while the soundtrack fills with horror chords, Rush’s own statements about how what he was doing was safe, and the sounds of glass and metal under pressure. Harrowing stuff!

Monroe is a prolific producer who’s done a bit of doc directing in recent years; credits include a couple of UFO-focused projects for MGM+ and Showtime, and a sports series for HBO. Titan will debut at Tribeca on June 6, before hitting Netflix on June 11.
