Tony Goldwyn to star in James Gunn’s The Belko Experiment
Though most people know him these days as President Fitzgerald Grant on Scandal, Tony Goldwyn used to be more famous for his role in the classic horror film Ghost. Goldwyn played Carl Bruner, a yuppie asshole who was haunted by the vengeful ghost of Patrick Swayze. And yes, we know Ghost wasn’t really a horror film, but we’re bringing it up so we can transition from that to the news that Goldwyn has just been cast in The Belko Experiment, a new horror movie—an actual horror movie, not a romantic drama with supernatural elements—written by Guardians Of The Galaxy director James Gunn.
Variety says The Belko Experiment is about an American company operating in South America that gets “mysteriously sealed off.” Naturally, the employees then start killing each other “or risk being killed themselves.” Gunn made the announcement of Goldwyn’s casting on his Facebook page, explaining that Goldwyn will be playing Barry Norris, “a guy who is used to being in charge at the Belko Building in South America.” Because he’s so used to being in charge, Norris has trouble adjusting to this new situation where employees kill each other, so he then…finds himself…doing something about it? Look, we don’t really know what’s going on in this movie yet. Maybe it’s zombies? Maybe it’s a Hunger Games-style competition to see which employee deserves a raise? Maybe if we all start killing each other, the last person alive will find out what the movie is really about? Yeah, that sounds good.
