People are still mourning the death of Satoru Iwata, president of Nintendo, who died last year at 55. Iwata started out in game development, working on projects like EarthBound and Balloon Fight. He eventually helped steer the company into a boom with the release of the DS handheld consoles and the Wii. He had a profound effect on many titles and game ideas that opened gaming up to many newcomers, and helped make it so ubiquitous. His death was felt by many around the world who mourned the man who had done so much for the industry and for imaginations.
At the most recent Game Developers Conference, a video tribute for Iwata, made by Raber Umphenour, Shawne Benson, David Hellman, and Chris Kohler, was shown. The short film, embedded below, captured the whimsy of his brain, his various contributions to gaming, and the loss felt by so many at his passing.
