Richard Gere investigates his estranged son's life and death in the Longing trailer

Picking up where they left off some 20 years back, Bloch reconnects with an ex-girlfriend (Suzanne Clément), who tells him that, shortly after they split, she found out she was pregnant with Allen, their son. Twenty years later, Allen died in a car accident under mysterious circumstances. In an attempt to learn something, anything, about the child he’ll never know, Bloch heads to his late son’s school to follow the truth wherever it leads. Apparently, Allen was a musician who owed money to a drug dealer for what must’ve been a hell of a lot of weed. He was in love with his teacher, played by Diane Kruger, whom his mother regards as a “curse.” Then he finds the journal. Looks like fatherhood isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

Gabizon doesn’t direct often, so it is interesting that he’s using one of his rare times behind the camera to remake his own movie—sans the backward motion from the 2017 trailer. His last movie before 2017’s Longing was 2003’s Nina’s Tragedies. He also directed 1995’s Love Sick and 1990’s Shuroo.

Longing opens in select theaters on June 7 and hits VOD on June 28.
