More than two decades after the end of the Cold War, espionage remains hot. FX has The Americans and Archer, Paul Feig’s Spy was a big hit, Danger 5 has garnered a cult following, The Man From U.N.C.L.E remake is hitting screens this summer, and James Bond will return in Spectre this winter. Now, Julian Barratt and Simon Farnaby, two members of the team behind The Mighty Boosh, are throwing their fitted black turtlenecks into the ring.
Deadline reports that Mindhorn, written by Barratt and Farnaby, will commence filming on July 27th on the Isle of Man. The project tells the tale of Bruce Mindhorn, a MI5 Special Operative who “was captured in the late ’80s [and] his eye was replaced by a super-advanced optical lie detector, which meant he could literally ‘see the truth.’” Using that particular skill set, Mindhorn becomes the best plainclothes detective on the Isle of Man. No casting announcements have been made as of yet, but both Barratt and Farnaby have acting experience—Barratt in The Mighty Boosh and A Field In England, Farnaby in Your Highness and Paddingto, for starters—so either of them could star. Sean Foley, the award-winning theater director behind The Play What I Wrote, will be making his feature directorial debut. It all sounds very British.
