Villainous pharmaceutical company plans to bring Resident Evil back from the dead

This comes from Variety, which says that Constantin Film, the German production company that owns the rights to the Resident Evil movies, is developing some sort of plan to keep the series running. Variety doesn’t have any actual details, including who would direct the reboot, who would star in the reboot, and how it might fit into the storyline of the original films—if at all—but it seems natural to assume that Paul W.S. Anderson and star Milla Jovovich won’t be involved. Anderson wrote all six of the original movies and directed four, but Variety notes that he’s preparing to take on an adaptation of Capcom’s Monster Hunter games these days.

Assuming Constantin does go for a clean break, it would be a perfect opportunity to take the series back to its horror roots—something that the Resident Evil video games had a lot of success with recently.
