Not even Elon Musk’s daughter is sure about how many children the guy has. “I will say I do not actually know how many siblings I have, if you include half-siblings. That’s just a fun fact. It’s really good for two truths and a lie,” Vivian Jenna Wilson tells Teen Vogue in a new cover story, and only her second-ever interview. Wilson, who came out as transgender in 2020, has semi-frequently made headlines in the past couple of years for her posts on Threads, Bluesky, or any other non-X social media platform to speak about trans rights and offer insights into her father. But the two are undeniably estranged; “I found out about the Shivon Zilis thing the same time everyone else did,” she says. “I had no idea before that.”
In the lengthy interview, Wilson often comes across like any other 20-year-old person with a large internet presence, with the major difference being that her father is by most estimates the richest man in the world. And though her relationship to Musk is the reason Wilson is famous, she says that she feels compelled to use that platform to speak up for trans people and other communities who are endangered by her father’s presence in the government. “I do feel obligated to talk about trans issues,” Wilson says. “As someone who did transition as a minor, I feel like there’s so much villainization of that, and I would really like to raise awareness of the fact that trans care for minors, especially puberty blockers, is really, really important.”
Other salient quotes from the interview include, “I found out about Grimes having a second child because a drag queen posted about it on Reddit,” which Wilson says is not even the only time she found out about a half-sibling through Reddit, and “I mean, I’ll see things about [Musk] in the news and think, That’s f**king cringe, I should probably post about this and denounce it, which I have done a few times.” To the latter point, Wilson gives an example: “The Nazi salute sh*t was insane. Honey, we’re going to call a fig a fig, and we’re going to call a Nazi salute what it was. That sh*t was definitely a Nazi salute.” You can check out the whole interview here.
