VR goggle app transports players to glorious time before VR goggles existed
In an effort to prove that consumer virtual reality devices are not to be used exclusively for P.O.V. pornography, the Oculus Arcade app has been released. First revealed at the Oculus Connect event back in September, the new app will transport (older) users back to the days of wasting time and money at Aladdin’s Castle. Included in the package are classic arcade games such as Pac-Man, Sonic The Hedgehog, Galaga, and Shinobi III amongst others. Unfortunately, Oculus’ efforts to simulate the arcade experience don’t include virtual recreations of that little shit who keeps trying to steal your tickets from the Skee–Ball machine, the sleazy drug dealer leaning against the Defender machine, or a virtual Billy Mitchell to taunt users.
While the Oculus Arcade app is compatible with existing Gear VR devices and Samsung Gear VR smartphones, the consumer version of the Samsung Gear VR device can now be pre-ordered and will ship on November 20th, just in time for Black Friday.
