Watch the exclusive premiere of New Beat Fund’s music video for “Scare Me,” made from 14 Instagram horror film parodies

California quartet New Beat Fund just wrapped a busy summer playing the 2013 installment of the Vans Warped Tour, supporting Blink-182, and performing at Riot Fest in Chicago and Denver. In the run-up to Halloween, the band’s Instagram page has been rolling out comedic recreations of horror films from The Fly to Carrie to The Shining, starring the band members as stand-ins during swedes of iconic scenes. Now all the videos have been stitched together with some extra content to form a music video for “Scare Me” in time for the Day Of The Dead. The homages reach back as far as the early days of Universal monster movies (Frankenstein), to the master of suspense (Psycho, The Birds), and early zombie films (Night Of The Living Dead). Then the group spoofs two of the major 80’s slasher franchises: Friday The 13th with Jason as a hockey goalie, and A Nightmare On Elm Street with Freddy helpfully slicing a pizza. And the references run all the way through modern horror hits like The Blair Witch Project and The Ring. It’s a purposefully tongue-in-cheek take on memorable horror films.
