Webby Awards recognize a lot of cool and famous people, as well as The A.V. Club and The Onion
This year’s nominations for the Webby Awards—easily the web’s most prestigious award outside of a mention in Great Job, Internet!—seems to have taken a decidedly Golden Globes-like strategy of nominating famous people in the hopes that they’ll show up. Among the nominees: Jim Carrey (“Funny Or Die’s Presidential Reunion”), Lisa Kudrow (“Web Therapy”), Snoop Dogg and LL Cool J (“The Ultimate Halo Smackdown”), Arcade Fire (“The Wilderness Downtown”), Conan O’Brien (for the fan site Team Coco), Jimmy Fallon (Late Night With Jimmy Fallon official site), Zach Galifianakis (“Between Two Ferns”), and oddly enough, Johnny Depp for The Tourist. Of course, even if any of these people actually do win during the June 13 ceremony, they’ll be limited, as always, to a five-word acceptance speech—except Depp, whose inclusion here was what is known as a “callback,” and who, if he attended anyway, would be allowed to ramble beneath his baggy wool hat for as long as he wants.
