The Red Hulk smashed his way to number one at the box office this weekend. Critics may not like Captain America: Brave New World as much as Cap’s previous outings (we gave it a C-), but they still went to go see it. Maybe that was to make up their own minds or just to see Harrison Ford transform into a giant scarlet monster; either way, the film sailed to an easy win this past weekend with a respectable $89 million opening. That’s the lowest of Marvel’s four Captain America-specific movies since the first (Captain America: The First Avenger debuted to $65 million in 2011), but still higher than expected, per Deadline

The trade also reports that Captain America: Brave New World is the fourth biggest Presidents Day weekend opening ever, behind—maybe you guessed it—three other Marvel films. Those are Black Panther ($242 million), Deadpool ($152 million), and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania ($120 million). It’s also the 35th consecutive Marvel movie to open at the top of the box office. Even with the flops, the studio is doing just fine at the box office.

Another hero took silver in his opening this weekend. That would be Paddington Bear, on his journey to find his lost aunt in Paddington In Peru. The fluffy threequel also opened higher than Deadline expected with $13 million, although this writer doesn’t know why anyone would expect any less from everyone’s favorite marmalade-loving mammal.
