Weekend Box Office: Panda vs. Sandler

Thanks to two big debuts and a couple of strong holdovers from previous weeks, this weekend saw the highest box office numbers in 10 months, with the top four films all grossing over $20 million. The CGI, celebrity-voiced family flick Kung Fu Panda came out on top with $60 million, followed by Adam Sandler's You Don't Mess With The Zohan with $40 million. Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull bumped down to No. 3 with a still-respectable $22.8 million (and bumped up to No. 43 on the list of all-time domestic earners). The much-ballyhooed Sex And The City dropped off from No. 1 to No. 4 this weekend, but still topped the $20 million mark ($21.3 million, actually). Last week's No. 2, The Strangers, took a considerable topple as well to the No. 5 spot with $9.3 million, just above the still-strong Iron Man ($7.5 million) and the not-as-strong The Chronicles Of Narnia: Prince Caspian ($5.5 million). A trio of middling comedies–What Happens In Vegas (No. 8, $3.4 million), Baby Mama (No. 9, $779,000), and Made Of Honor (No. 10, $775,000)–round out the list.
