Welcome to What’s On, our weekly roundup of notable shows and films. Here is what’s happening on TV from Sunday, December 28 to Saturday, January 3. All times are Eastern.
New this week
Wolf (AMC+ and Shudder, Tuesday, 3 a.m., miniseries premiere)
Based on Mo Hayder’s novels, the British six-part thriller Wolf centers on DI Jack Caffery (Ukweli Roach)—yes, another detective navigating his own psychological turmoil while on the job—who becomes obsessed with the neighbor he believes murdered his 10-year-old brother back in the ’90s. His story soon collides with a wealthy family being held captive in a home invasion. Sacha Dhawan, Iwan Rheon, and Sian Reese-Williams also star.
Stranger Things (Netflix, Wednesday, 8 p.m., series finale)
After five seasons and nearly a decade of Demogorgon-slaying, Netflix sci-fi juggernaut Stranger Things ends for good on New Year’s Eve. It’s a supersized, two-hour-plus finale, which should be plenty of time to tie up all those loose ends and the big confrontation between Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower), Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), and the rest of the Hawkins gang. Look for The A.V. Club’s recap on Wednesday.
Together (Hulu, Wednesday, 3 a.m.)
Real-life spouses Dave Franco and Alison Brie join up in Michael Shanks’ body-horror feature debut, playing a married couple whose move to the countryside takes a horrific and very gross turn when a mysterious force starts to fuse their flesh together. Read The A.V. Club’s review.
