What's on TV this week—A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms and The Beauty

Welcome to What’s On, our weekly roundup of notable shows. Here is what’s happening on TV from Sunday, January 18 to Saturday, January 24. All times are Eastern.

New this week

A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms (HBO, Sunday, 10 p.m., series premiere)

We’re back in Westeros, folks: HBO’s latest George R. R. Martin adaptation picks up nearly a century before Game Of Thrones and, across six episodes, follows the fantastical buddy-comedy adventures of Ser Duncan The Tall (Peter Claffey)—or Dunk, our lofty titular hedge knight—and his diminutive squire Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell). The A.V. Club will recap the show weekly.

Steal (Prime Video, Wednesday, 3 a.m., series premiere)

Speaking of Thrones, series alum Sophie Turner leads this six-episode heist thriller for Prime Video, playing an office worker at a pension-fund investment company who gets caught up in the largest armed robbery in British history. Archie Madekwe (Saltburn) and Jacob Fortune-Lloyd (Bodies) also star.

The Beauty (FX, Wednesday, 9 p.m., series premiere)

Ryan Murphy’s new body-horror show The Substance—er, sorry, The Beauty—is an adaptation of the Image Comics series of the same name and centers on a pair of FBI agents (played by Evan Peters and Rebecca Hall) tasked with investigating high-profile deaths in connection to a miracle drug created by a ruthless billionaire (portrayed by Ashton Kutcher). Look for The A.V. Club’s review on Wednesday.

Mel Brooks: The 99 Year Old Man! (HBO, Thursday, 8 p.m., docuseries premiere)

Judd Apatow and Michael Bonfiglio direct this two-part HBO documentary on the comedy legend, in which the likes of Adam Sandler, Sarah Silverman, Conan O’Brien, Tracey Ullman, and the man himself help chart his fascinating career and life. Read The A.V. Club’s review.
