What's on TV this week—Lucky and Ride Or Die premiere

Welcome to What’s On, our weekly roundup of notable shows. Here is what’s happening on TV from Sunday, July 12 to Saturday, July 18. All times are Eastern.

Lucky (Apple TV, Wednesday, series premiere) In this Apple TV adaptation of the best-selling Marissa Stapley novel, Anya Taylor-Joy plays titular con artist Lucky Armstrong, who lives up to her name when she comes into possession of a lottery ticket worth millions of dollars. Only thing is, if she cashes the slip, she’ll attract the attention of both the FBI agents and the ruthless crime boss (played by none other than Annette Bening) who have been hot on her tail since her last failed heist. Along with Taylor-Joy and Bening, the Lucky cast includes Timothy Olyphant, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, and Drew Starkey. The first two episodes will drop on Wednesday, and The A.V. Club will have our review on Tuesday night.

Ride Or Die (Prime Video, Wednesday, series premiere) The delightful duo of Octavia Spencer and Hannah Waddingham lead this Amazon action-adventure comedy as best friends Debbie Claybourne and Judith Burton, the latter of whom just happens to secretly be a highly trained international assassin. After a hit goes wrong, both of their lives are upended, sending them on the run across Europe with dogged law enforcement and dangerous criminals nipping at their heels. Bill Nighy, Ed Skrein, and Sylvia Hoeks round out the energetic ensemble. Look out for The A.V. Club’s review on Tuesday.

The Hawk (Netflix, Thursday, series premiere) He drove for NASCAR glory in Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, hit the ice in Blades Of Glory, coached youth soccer in Kicking & Screaming, and took it to the hoop in Semi-Pro—now Will Ferrell expands his sports-comedy repertoire with this golf-focused Netflix series. The comedy icon stars as Lonnie “The Hawk” Hawkins, a way-past-his-prime pro desperate for one final major title, much to the chagrin of his exasperated family. (Fellow Saturday Night Live legend Molly Shannon plays Lonnie’s estranged wife Stacy, with American Vandal’s Jimmy Tatro as son Lance.) The A.V. Club’s review comes swinging in on Thursday.

Heartstopper Forever (Netflix, Friday, movie premiere) After three seasons and 24 episodes, high-school sweethearts Nick Nelson (Kit Connor) and Charlie Spring (Joe Locke) will get their happily-ever-after—we hope!—with this feature-length finale of the fan-favorite romance series. With graduation on the horizon, the young lovers will have to navigate long distances, lingering doubts and all of the bittersweet odds and ends that come with growing up and heading out into the world alongside their Truham-Higgs pals Elle (Yasmin Finney), Tao (William Gao), Tara (Corinna Brown), and Darcy (Kizzy Edgell).
