What's on TV this week—The Bear, Ironheart, Squid Game

Welcome to What’s On, our weekly roundup of notable shows. Here is what’s happening on TV from Sunday, June 22 to Saturday, June 28. All times are Eastern.

The biggies

Ironheart (Disney+, Tuesday, 9 p.m.)

Ironheart continues Riri Williams’ (Dominique Thorne) journey in Chicago after her Black Panther: Wakanda Forever quests. Thrown out of MIT and armed with a new vibranium suit, she connects with a dangerous mentor (played by Anthony Ramos) who possesses magical abilities. The A.V. Club will recap the show, which premieres with three episodes.

The Bear (FX, Wednesday, 12:01 a.m.)

In the latest round of The Bear, Carmy (Jeremy Allen White), Syd (Ayo Edebiri), and Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) deal with the fallout of a negative review of their restaurant while handling a whole lot of personal issues (all set against the background of a ticking clock, of course). The A.V. Club‘s recaps of the new season publish daily starting Thursday.

Squid Game (Netflix, Friday, 3:01 a.m.)

Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) participates in some more life-or-death challenges in Squid Game‘s third and final season. Taking place right after the rebellion against the guards, the six new episodes feature additional bleak games, fatalities, and player 456’s attempts to hunt down the Front Man. The A.V. Club‘s recaps drop daily starting Friday.

Also airing

The Countdown (Prime Video, Wednesday, 3:01 a.m.)

The Countdown centers on an LAPD officer (played by Supernatural‘s Jensen Ackles) who teams up with undercover agents to capture a murderer. But their investigation leads them to a larger conspiracy that could threaten the lives of millions in the city. The crime drama co-stars Jessica Camacho and Eric Dane.

Smoke (Apple TV+, Friday, 12:01 a.m.)

Black Bird creator Dennis Lehane and star Taron Egerton reunite for Smoke, in which the latter’s arson investigator and a detective (portrayed by Jurnee Smollett) try to nab whoever is setting fires across the Pacific Northwest. Check out The A.V. Club‘s review of the show.
