Nick Bilton mulling Stephen A. Smith, John McEnroe to be 60 Minutes' new Andy Rooney
The new executive producer is also apparently developing an AI system to review story pitches.

Things have been pretty quiet on the 60 Minutes front since the blowup in early June, which saw Nick Bilton brought on as executive producer and many longtime staff members depart the news magazine. July is typically staffers’ recess, and while we imagine that many of the people who still have their jobs just dealt with some of the most intense Sunday scaries ever, Bilton has been quietly at work building his new version of the esteemed program. This apparently includes bringing back Andy Rooney-style closing segments for the broadcast. For the gig, Bilton has so far reached out to TV sports commentators John McEnroe and Stephen A. Smith about offering their observations to the program. (Smith, it’s worth mentioning, has voiced some disappointing opinions about trans people and women’s sports in the just last couple of weeks.)
