Green Lantern John Stewart will apparently be on hand for James Gunn's 2027 Superman sequel.

David Corenswet’s Superman will apparently be getting a new Green Lantern “buddy” to trade insults with, as THR reports that Aaron Pierre is officially set to make an appearance in James Gunn’s upcoming Man Of Tomorrow. Positioned (albeit with a bit of hedging about who the real hero is here from Gunn) as a direct sequel to last year’s Superman, the film will see Corenswet’s Clark Kent and Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor forced to team up to face off against alien tyrant Brainiac.

And also, apparently, John Stewart will be there, as Pierre has now signed on for the film’s cast. Audiences recently got their first look at the Rebel Ridge actor’s take on the fan-favorite Lantern in the trailer for, well, Lanterns, showing the architect and Marine paired up with Kyle Chandler’s more experienced space cop Hal Jordan. The question now, obviously, is how we get from there to here—especially since Superman already had an entirely separate Green Lantern floating around, in the form of Nathan Fillion’s foul-mouthed, unfashionably coiffed Guy Gardner.

Man Of Tomorrow has been in the works since Gunn’s Superman revival project justified its whole universe’s existence last summer by performing sufficiently well at the 2025 box office. Most of that film’s cast has already been locked down to return, including Corenswet, Hoult, Rachel Brosnahan, Skyler Gisondo, Sara Sampaio, Maria Gabrielle De Faria, and Isabella Merced—the latter notable here, because her dictator-spiking Hawkgirl shared most of her scenes with Fillion’s as-yet-unmentioned Gardner.

This isn’t the first time that Pierre has gotten to dip a toe in the Superman mythos; back in 2018, he starred in Syfy’s short-lived space drama Krypton, which also saw his character (the Kryptonian Dev-Em) wind up in conflict with Brainiac. (He’s since had a rising career, including a starring role in Disney’s Mufasa and a prominent part in the most recent season of The Morning Show.) Lanterns debuts on HBO Max in August of 2026; Man Of Tomorrow is currently set for a July 9, 2027 release date.
