Carrie to spill more blood in season 2

Mike Flanagan is now much closer to his goal of completing a three-season Carrie arc. On Thursday, Prime Video announced that the latest reboot of Stephen King’s Carrie novel has been renewed for season two, with Flanagan returning as showrunner and executive producer, and King also returning as an executive producer. “For 50 years, audiences have known and gravitated to Carrie White’s story. From the beginning, we imagined a story that goes far beyond the prom, and I’m incredibly grateful for Stephen’s trust and support in exploring what comes next,” Flanagan said in the press release, with King teasing that Carrie’s next adventure is “bound to be thrilling.”

If you’ve seen the eight-episode first season, it’s not surprising that Carrie’s (Summer H. Howell) story will continue beyond the infamous prom night massacre, given the cliffhanger ending and other loose ends that diverged from the book. (If you haven’t seen the show and don’t want the spoilers, you might want to stop reading here.) In the finale, much of the prom destruction is attributed to Emaline West (Thalia Dudek), Carrie’s friend who can astral project and gets permission to “take the wheel.” Carrie later has a showdown with her strict mother, Margaret (Samantha Sloyan), but she survives the house crumbling on top of her thanks to her apparently suppressed telekinetic abilities (known as the TK gene). Margaret doesn’t last long, though, because some kind of cult leader named Adelaide (Kate Siegel) telepathically stops her heart and kills her after getting as much information about Carrie’s whereabouts as she could. In the end, Carrie drives off not exactly into the sunset, but into the unknown with Emaline, who vaguely says people are trying to track them, so information about where they’re headed is strictly need-to-know. According to the press release, “much remains in store from Mike Flanagan and Stephen King, as new revelations will come to light, major character arcs, and plenty of shocking twists,” in season two.
