ABC preemptively cancels Marvel’s Most Wanted

Years from now, pop culture historians will write books and give lectures about what happened today. They’ll tell stories about the puppet-based workplace comedy, the medieval musical, and the crime-solving writer who used to be a starship captain. Decades will pass, and people will still remember the woman with the flashy hats who knew one of the Avengers, and they’ll hum country music tunes long after Tennessee has somehow sunk into the ocean. Centuries after that, the surviving humans will huddle together at night in the ruins of our greatest cities as they discuss whatever The Family was about, distracting themselves from the irradiated horrors that now rule the planet.

Anyway, Variety says that ABC has decided to pass on Marvel’s Most Wanted, the Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. spinoff that would’ve starred Adrianne Palicki and Nick Blood. It’s not technically a cancellation (since the show never went to series), but it might as well be. Rumblings of Most Wanted not doing so well have been going on for a while now, with the latest coming from a report just last week that said ABC no longer considered the show to be “a lock” for a series order. That turned out to be right on the money, but Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. has already been renewed for another season, so there’s still a chance Palicki and Blood could find their way back to the original show eventually.

At this point, the only thing left for us to do is carve Marvel’s Most Wanted into the memorial wall that will commemorate today’s dearly departed TV shows. (Also, let’s all cross our fingers that it’s over, because this has been exhausting.)
