Alden Ehrenreich to tool around with Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler in Miami Vice '85

Joseph Kosinski’s Miami Vice revival movie continues to make a serious push into getting All The Guys lined up to star in it, as Deadline reports today that Alden Ehrenreich has just signed on to join Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler for the film. Formally titled Miami Vice ’85, the film sees the Tron: Legacy director (who we assume prefers it when you refer to him as the Top Gun: Maverick director these days) assembling an increasingly deep bench of Guys who have balanced interesting dramatic careers over the last 10 years with projects where they had to spend a lot of time pretending a tennis ball was a carnivorous giant space monster.

 

Ehrenreich, for his part, is fresh off a healthy dose of strong critical buzz (and a Tony win) for his Broadway performance in a recent production of Becky Shaw. Deadline‘s sources state that the planet’s second-most-popular Han Solo actor was getting offers thrown at him left and right as he returned to Hollywood after this latest success, but couldn’t resist the urge to sign on to work with Jordan and Butler.

 

There’s no word yet on who Ehrenreich will be playing in the film, but we can’t help but notice that the franchise’s most notable roles, of paired cops who split their time between stopping crimes and looking incredibly snazzy in fancy suits while listening to Phil Collins songs, have already had shotgun called on them by Butler and Jordan—so Ehrenreich will presumably be stuck riding around in the back seat of the franchise’s iconic Daytona Spyder. (Meanwhile, how many more Guys can Kosinski fit in this thing? Does anyone have feelers out to his old Top Gun: Maverick star Glen Powell? This feels like the kind of thing you’d try to shove Glen Powell into somewhere, right?)
