Alkaline Trio’s Derek Grant announces solo album, streams first song

Throughout its nearly two-decade existence, Alkaline Trio’s vocalists Matt Skiba and Dan Andriano have routinely veered in and out of various solo projects, giving themselves a break from the punk-rock fare of their main project. The band’s longtime drummer Derek Grant is now taking part in that practice, and tomorrow he’ll be releasing a digital single through Red Scare Industries entitled Love Is A Bad Dream. The A.V. Club is streaming the single’s title track in advance it hitting digital retailers on September 30, and it all teases Grant’s upcoming solo full-length Break Down that will be released through Red Scare this December. “Love Is A Bad Dream” sees Grant taking the lead on a country-inspired jaunt, proving that he’s as skilled a vocalist as the other members of the trio he’s usually backing, with influences just as wildly diverse.
