Nobody Wants This matriarch Tovah Feldshuh scolds star Adam Brody over Israel genocide remarks

In what must be a really relaxed work environment, Nobody Wants This costar and The Walking Dead alum Tovah Feldshuh has now come out to criticize series star Adam Brody’s assessment that the Israeli government is committing genocide in Gaza. According to The Hollywood Reporter, veteran actor Feldshuh, who plays the imperious mother of Brody’s rabbi character Noah in the Netflix series, told the New York Post on Sunday, “To accuse the Jewish people of genocide is wild. It’s right out of Hitler’s playbook. You take the victim and you make the victim the perpetrator.”

Continuing to berate her onscreen son, Feldshuh stated that Brody being Jewish makes his comments worse, stating, “[It] makes a difference to the [Jewish] community.” Feldshuh added a broader defense of Israel, claiming, “I believe that the perseverance of the existence of the state of Israel is crucial to the well-being of the democratic world and of the free world. Of course, Israel needs the United States, [but] the United States needs Israel, believe you me.”

Brody, who describes himself as “not religious at all, a nonbeliever,” was recently—if more gently—disagreed with by Nobody Wants This creator Erin Foster, who says she loves Brody while not agreeing with him that Israel’s ongoing campaign, which has killed over 70,000 Palestinians and wounded nearly 200,000 more, constitutes the dictionary definition of genocide. According to the THR report, the series’ technical advisor, Rabbi Steve Leder, was less diplomatic, calling the supposed tone of Brody’s remark, “put me down for genocide,” akin to “asking for a table for two at Craig’s,” and calling Brody’s defense of the Palestinian people “disgusting.”

Meanwhile, in 2025 the United Nations Independent International Commission of Inquiry stated unequivocally that “Israel has committed genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.” Other groups also calling Israel’s actions a genocide include Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and the International Association of Genocide Scholars.
